Hi Everyone,

Hoping someone can help me with some noob questions?

1) Can a fish give coral a disease?
2) Can Inverts, Crabs, etc.. give coral a disease?
3) Can you dip crabs, inverts, etc..?

Thanks T

1) Not the fish themselves, but there is always a chance of cross contamination if you bring a fish over from a tank with a coral disease and some of that water gets into your tank. This isn't something people are concerned with.

2) Not the crab or invert themselves, but their shells can bring in hitchhikers if a tank is infested with something.

3) No, only corals. You can wipe or scrub the shell of a snail or crab. I do this when I buy a snail or hermit.

So in summary, I don't know of any disease that they can pass to a coral as in acting like a vector or something, but if there are any, it is not well known to the hobby or extremely uncommon. The only way I can think of it is by cross contamination of water. I QT my inverts but for different reasons.
