questions on HOB skimmer

I just installed my Octo reef classic 100 protein skimmer in my 75 gallon. While I know having the tank with fish in it for only a week I wont get much I have no clue where to set the overflow cup. Also do I leave it running 24 /7 or is it normal to turn off during feeding and at night and when im not at home...im really worried about the water filling that cup and flooding my room?Any tips for using this piece of eqt would be appreciated. Info on tank ...75 gallon with 3 damsels, 4 hermit crabs a cleaner shrimp and 2 snails. Stock has been in for just over a week

Let the skimmer on 24/7
Tune and set for the cup to have the top of bubbles about 1/4 of the way up.
My skimmer shuts off every time my return Pump shuts down then waits about 10 minutes to bring the skimmer on.
I also use optic level sensors that will also shut the return pump and skimmer off if water gets too high in the sump.
