Hello there, I've got a newer set up tank. Everything has been going well but of course there has to be some bumps in the road. I started with 2 clowns, and got some shrimp and snails. Had those for well over a month or more now. I got a new addition (royal gramma) who looked healthy at the store and was fine in the tank the day after. My gf mentioned a white spot on its head yesterday. By the time I got home from work to look at it, it now has more all over its body.

Now my question is, if I set up a little quarantine tank and just treat it. Will it fix my problem? I'm worried about it dosing my DT because of everything else in it might die from the medication. Or because the fish is in there, is the ich already in my tank and that's really my only option?

I'll try to get pictures but the lil guy is very jumpy and shy. Any ideas or info is welcomed, thank you in advance R2R.

The problem with ich is, this parasite has a 30 day life span. So assuming you qt your fish, you’d have to qt for 30 days with meds. And same goes for all fish in your tank. You need to isolate all fish from contaminated tank. This parasite needs to live out its lifespan in a fallow (fishless) tank.

Can you upload pics so someone can confirm it’s ich? There are other similar parasites out there. You never know what you’re dealing with.

If you have ich, all fish need to be QT’ed with copper for either 30 days or 14 days with a transfer to a sterile tank. Inverts/coral can stay in DT and it needs to be fishless for 76 days.
I would recommend copper power with a Hanna high range copper tester. You’ll want to gradually ramp up copper over a few days to 2.0ppm.

So yesterday I came home from work and he was pretty covered in white spots on his face and body. Today I came home and he looked so much better, I couldn't see any spots at all.
I took a lot of pictures and this was the best one I could get. I do see a few white spots in the picture. Let me know what you all think.
