Hello

Relatively new to the hobby and have a JBJ 28 gallon nano with a reef radiance dm 132-e LED fixture, an inline uv and an aquamaxx hob-1 skimmer. I have about 30 lbs live sand and about 35 lbs live rock. (Tank pic inclosed).

My fish stock includes: 2 clowns I have had for 2 years in my old 2 gallon, 1 yellow neon goby, 1 gumdrop clown goby, and a yellow coris wrasse.

Be it good or bad, I have over indulged in corals and currently have about 30 different frag sized pieces placed around my tank and about 20 more on their way. I have (or will have) quite a few Acan frags, and after yesterday, quite a few Zoa's/Paly's.

Right now, the Zoa's / Payls are being kept on the front middle right hand portion of my rock formation and it was my intention to keep gluing frags there on two shelf like formations till they grew together. You can see the 2 "shelf portions" in the pics on the right hand side to the right of the Acans.

QUESTION:

1) Is this a good location (see pic)
2) Do I have enough flow / light? In addition to the two return pumps that come with the tank pointed slightly down and forward, I have two nano Koralia's pointed across the back, 1 on each side.
3) Can Zoa's touch Paly's, different Zoa's touch each other, etc?
4) Any other tips on making my Zoa's / Paly's happy?

I rotate feeding coral excel, coral elements, zoo blast, phyto blast, and marine snow to the corals. One each day.

Thanks as always... Your input has helped a new aquarist greatly.

Adam

Everything seems ok. zoas and palys can touch but since palys are bigger and have longer stems they usually outgrow zoas and they end up dying. Keep your paramters as stable as you can and your corals will be happy.

like josh said everything looks good, just keep up with the tank and before you know it tank will be mature and healthy and growing fast!

Thanks everyone for the advice... I am in for a challenge as I went a little crazy over 4th of july weekend with live auctions... I lost count with the three I did and it turns out, I will be getting almost 35-45 frags, many of them Paly's/Zoa's......

HELP ;-) I might have to try and scrape off the plugs and glue near each other.

Also, can Zoa's / Paly's stand high light? I am thinking of putting some on the top rock as I am finding out the Moni's I put up there seem to be bleaching out.

You can put zoas anywhere just keep an eye on them. If they dont like the spot they wont look as happy.

Hey Adam, with all the new corals coming in I'd suggest crowding the like corals together a bit while its still fairly easy to make room. Your two Caulastrea/Candy cane and your Euphyllia can be mixed easily. Also looking at the GSP? in back right, you can glue to back wall to save room and much easier to control there. The Duncan would do great in its place then as the powerhead should draw food particulate to it in that location and Duncan's love their food. Reeftank is really looking good bud even on my tiny phone screen.

Cheers, Todd

Heads up on your new Acans if any of them are A. echinata, they are about the most deadliest to any other corals within reach (approx 3") fortunately they require little light and can be isolated in corners or nooks.

Cheers, Todd

Todd, thanks...Todd, sorry, what is GSP? I was wondering about putting stuff on the back wall but wasn't sure

Hey Adam, GSP aka Green Star Polyp. Hard to tell if its GSP or a Galaxia off my phone, but the coral in back bottom right corner... If GSP it will quickly take over in its current location as they can grow quickly upwards and outwards. So by placing it on the back glass (patting the encrusting matte or the body of coral dry with a towel then applying S.G. gel and lightly twisting into place on the cleaned glass area you want.. Great place for encrusting Montipora as well.

Cheers, Todd
