So I'm thinking about running carbon in my system but I'm not sure on exactly how it if I should even do it. So first off my tanks overflow runs through 2 filter socks then into the sump with the protein skimmer, then it goes through to the chaeto, more live rock and then finally back up into the tank. My questions are, will adding a bag of activated carbon right before my return do anything beneficial? Will it affect my chaeto growth? Could I better utilize it by putting it somewhere else?

You can just put it in a media bag a drop it near the pump. Or , put it on the pump intake to make it more efficient.

Won't effect chato growth it doesn't pull nutrients really. It'll make the water clearer as it will pull some organics. Will pull some of the toxins that corals give off.

Thanks for the reply salty! What's the life on that carbon, I got the mix from brs. Can I rinse it off and reuse it a few times?

No. Toss it.
It's one of those things impossible to calculate really. How much food , pee poo coral snot etc is in the tank?
That's how long the carbon lasts.

I would love a reactor however convincing the wife I need it is another issue lol.

lol. its xmas
I wish I could use that excuse. She's already bought me a few things for the tank and has given me a budget of around 400 for some more fish and coral. Trying to squeeze this in might get me the stink eye. Hell, she will tell me to buy less fish and coral to get the reactor. And that's just simply not going to happen lol. Maybe in the near future I'll get one, but for now I guess I'll have to see how this media bag does.
