I'm currently dosing 2 part, per @Randy Holmes-Farley recipe. I'm almost finished with a gallon each of alk and calcium. My mag has maintained the whole time, right around 1400 (tested it a few days ago). When I'm finished with my gallon of each mix, I'm suppose to add a large amount of magnesium. Why? Won't that raise my already good number, to a dangerous number? If not, do I add it right after a water change, and let it soak in for a week before my next WC?

You only need to add it if it was low, since it's at a level that's really good, I wouldn't add anything.

Agree with @Downbeach and @TitanCi .....obviously the salt brand you're using is maintaining the Magnesium at an acceptable level.....just keep on doing what you're doing with the alk and calc.

Oh alright, makes sense. Thank you guys, will continue to monitor numbers.

Iirc, I think it was assumed in Randy's article that no water changes were done? I say this because he mentions the salinity changing after a year or something like that... So adding the Mg would make sense if no water Changes were done.

For what it's worth, before using a Ca Reactor, when I was dosing I would use Arm and Hammer for alk and pool supply CaCl (aka hardness plus) which was Dow Mini pellets (99% pure), what are you using for your Ca?
