I plan on buying an ai prime for my 20g nano reef. Would one light be enough? I have softies some lps and one sps (montipora but in top half of tank) should I get the 12 inch or 18 inch mount arm.
Full stock list of coral
Kryptonite candy cane
Uranium bounce mushroom
Sunkist bounce
Purple hammer
Frogspawn
Gsp
Kenya tree
Pulsing xenia
Reverse superman monti
War coral
Green Favia

i have 2 primes over a 24x24 cube so i'd think you'd be ok. just put the monti right under the light

anything on the edges of the tank will need to be pretty low light, i used to have just 1 prime and i had stuff like euphyllia, acans, mushrooms, space invader, zoas, duncans etc over on the sandbed at the edges

Oh I also have acans, so I think I'll have most my softies and acan/euphillia at the edge. But if you have 2 on a 60g I should be more than good on a 20g.. should I get the 12 or 18 inch arm

One ai prime will be more than enough for lps/softies (and the Monti) -the only thing to watch out for is spread. If you have a 20 gal cube it will be just fine but if you have a longer tank such as a IM fusion 20 you might need more than one to achieve full coverage. (The light is rated for an 18x18” coverage)

It's a 20 tall sorry. 24 1/4 x 12 1/2 x 16 3/4

Gotcha -you will be just fine with one ai prime. I had one over a 24 inch long tank and it worked pretty well. Obviously par will be lower on the outside edges but as long as you keep monti/lps more toward the center of the light you should be good to go.

You can always easily add a second prime later on if you want to change your coral placement or start keeping more light demanding corals in the future.

I have an ai prime with 12 inch mount on the way! I missed one day shipping by 20 mins sadly. I guess I'll use my old light for a frag tank

is the 18" the gooseneck thing? that thing got bad reviews when i was looking, I went with the hard mounts which I'd guess are 12"

higher would be better imo, less disco ball more even coverage etc, but the 12" isn't a deal breaker

there's an AI group on facebook i'd recommend, people have a ton of presets on there u can try out if u want
