Starting my 40 breeder setup with Modular Marine overflow (1/2 inch plumbing). Have traditional bean animal setup and its working fine. Question is around open channel drain and depth of overflow lines in sump:
1- I currently have my open channel drain as a single piece of pipe just like the emergency drain. It is not drawing in air as I have the flow set up to where water is moving into it (use a ball valve on drain 1 unfortunately not a gate) slow enough not to. Is this setup OK OR should I move to what seems to be the standard setup for the second drain - a down turned 90 with a hole in the top (is the top hole necessary???)?
2- For the lines entering the sump (sump is in the basement using 4 elbows 10 feet down), should they be in the water or out of the water? Should there be holes drilled into them as well for sir release just above the normal sump water line?
Again its running fine now but I haven't run it through its bank of failure tests yet. Just want to be sure I start off right with the best chance for success!
Thanks.
