So I have a 29 gallon tank which just finished cycling a week ago, and will be going today to get a firefish and some cuc $15 for the firefish. I don't want to spent more than $50. what are some hermits and snails I should get? I dont want any normal crabs. Any ideas?

Can't really go wrong with a couple blue or red-legged hermits.
You don't want emerald crabs... correct? I like them myself. Some of the more interesting creatures to watch, but to each his own.

Since you're just starting to stock your tank and will be going back to the fish store for livestock a number of times in the coming months, I'd just go slow and easy. You don't need to come home with your full "crew." I have trochus and mexican turbos. The trochus are very gentle, but don't eat a ton. The turbos can eat like hyenas, but are strong enough to frag your sps for you, or sometimes knock frags off of the rocks.

In my experience you will be much better off with less hermits and more snails. Depending on what you plan on keeping in the tank will determine what snails you should get. Shrimp will steal food from the corals and will irritate them be aware of that.

Tuxedo urchins are pretty interesting, but they do like wearing frags as hats!
An urchin in a new tank would need to be supplementally fed or it would starve. I would wait on that.

For now, nerite snails and maybe a big turbo and then a few red or blue legged hermits will do.
