Ignore this. He pranked me into thinking that because he knew I'd be disappointed. But still thanks for your help!! Hes going to try the UV!

Personally I would determine if the tank is right for your friend. Not everyone is right for the hobby. I would ask him first if he wants to continue regardless of tank condition. If he is wants to continue his effort I am sure a solution will present itself

This sounds incredibly egotistical...does he not possess a unique talent or ability to keep a tank?

He encountered an issue, looking to over come it, not sure telling someone there not cut out for it is sound advice.

The only talents in keeping a tank are money and patience, doubt either one would help his situation about now

I think interest, desire, and persistence are also needed. My wife for example enjoys the tank but it wouldnt be an enjoyable hobby for her to maintain or troubleshoot, it would be work. I think that is what Mastiffsrule was getting at, not that they guy was inept or anything

Fair enough, your wife likes to look at the tank from afar and not get involved much like me and swimming pools, I like them, would never want to upkeep one, doesn’t mean I’m not cut out or can’t

If he meant desire like you suggest,’I’m all aboard, however i took it as someone telling someone they are inept, a 100 pound guy wanting to play oline in the nfl.

Hopefully I’m wrong and he only one who can determine if they are “right for” the hobby is the guy himself , should he want to be

Pretty sure he was saying the guy should evaluate whether or not he's interested enough to deal with the work involved...... I didn't interpret any of it as an attack on his ability/knowledge/etc. He never said he wasn't "cut out for it"

what water source is he using? RODI/ Tap?

I will clarify what I meant.

The basic message is, Hey, talk with your friend and make sure he likes it. Explain there will be good and bad moments. If he likes the hobby and wants to reef, a solution would be found to get him off to a strong start

Sorry if it read egotistical as that is the last thing I am.

I will say no where in my post does it imply he should tell him to quit.

I always like feedback, but it usually goes better to go directly to the source of a post then be derogatory about it and then assume the meaning rather than simply clarifying it with the author . It is better to ask the writer than place ones own meaning to the words. :)

I do not want to hijack the thread so I apologize, i just wanted to be sure no one else took away that same message.

I did want to thank @cmcoker . You are the reason I love this forum. o_O;Shamefullyembarrased Edit,,,,ops sorry I left out @Jon Fishman thanks
