Quick Hermit Crab Question

What else can I do to ensure they are well fed? I only have five and to feed them I leave some of the fish in the tank. If you were wondering I feed my fish frozen spirulina brine shrimp.

I break up a single algae wafer into 4 or 5 pieces and put them into the tank once a week. My hermits love them. I have about a dozen.

Sounds like a good idea. I assume any species of hermit will eat algae wafers?

Unless they are only meat eaters they will. Once they get used to getting them you will enjoy how fast they come for them. Pretty comical to watch hermit races.

Yes I have red legs. They love them.

I have never fed mine. They just eat the scraps and they are huge. Picked up 5 dwarf blue legged 10 months ago all the size of a pencil tip. Now they are the size of my thumb. Just give them some new shell sizes. They will grow and fight over who gets the shells.

I've noticed my blue hermit crabs are inspecting some older Trochus snail shells as if they wanna switch to them and unfortunately they are the only empty shells in my tank right now. I was thinking of buying some additional shells but wasn't sure how to do so... should I just go to my NFS and purchase empty shells??? lol How much should I pay for something like that???

LFS that are not like Petco or Petsmart usually have a bucket to sift through. Some just say pick what you need for free. Some places will be a $1 a piece. Just make sure they have cleaned them. I think they bleach them, because they are usually white.
