Im not super new to the hobby but have been out of it for a while, Im starting a 20gal build soon and was planning on filling the tank with R/o and then mixing the salt in the tank its self, I will be starting with dead rock and sand so any issues with this? It just saves me the hassle of pumping water from a brute garbage can.

After its stable I was planning on ordering 1 small chunk of live rock for the refugium to kinda seed it, and then start cycling.

When you add the water to reduce all the sediment and cloudiness from the sand/aragonite, I would use a plate and hold it in the tank. Pour the water in the tank so that the force of the water flow is disbursed over a larger surface area. Trick of the trade in minimizing cloudiness and a mess in your filters, powerheads etc.
good luck to you…

Rodi, Just dug out my old mp10 and it works! has been in a box for I think 8-10 years @.@ Same with my old reef octopus 110 classic, it might be to big for me to use though.

I mix water and salt first , then add sand, then rock.

Looks like my old reef octopus 110 will just fit in the Red Sea's sumps skimmer chamber, I used this skimmer for a 65g tank before and it was amazing, is it detrimental to use a skimmer this large for this small of a tank?

It can run lean where there isn't enough waste for it to work properly.
That is a good video by BRS that talks about it.
