I am overhauling a 20H from my pet store. It was returned to my store because it was leaking. So I took the tank because I’m awesome and I paint the back black peeled out all the silicone from its corners and today I’m going to seal it up with silicone and Sunday I’m going to set it up. Now since I have my 3month old 10gallon, with 2 clowns, orange spotted goby, skunk shrimp, 2 turbos, 2 emerald crabs, and 5 ridiculous Kenya’s, 2mushroom corals, dusty feather worms and live rock. When will be a good time to add my creatures to the new tank? Will it be a same day thing? Or wait a week kind of thing? I have test kits. But what’s the best way to go about this? What are some of your experiences because I am not waiting 30days for the tank to cycle like I already did with my 10gallon.

NOPE!!

Anyone notice he's going to reseal the tank on saturday morning, and is going to fill it up on a sunday?

Might want to let that silicone cure for a couple days first.
Yes first thing I noticed.
Let silicone cure ( probably instructions/ directions on tube for this) then once fully cured and you did a leak test then transfer stuff from one tank to the other.
If adding any live rock and potential for die off from rock then cure it separately like you would do on any new live rock so all depends on what you adding like all 10g livestock/ rocks/ sand etc and if anything new.
As for disturbing that sand and re- using it,I think most would say rinse the hell out of it first but would also depend how old/ long that sand been in your 10 gallon but will let others recommend you on that as never re- used one tank from one to another during tank transfer .
Good luck

I didn’t even catch this! Definitely needs to cure for a week. Don’t rush OP…

Instructions said wait 24hrs before adding water.

I’ve resealed many tanks and refilled them in a 24-30hr time frame. And so far no one has given me the answers I’m looking for and I feel like no one has even read my thread throughly or read everything the live rock is already cured. You know what? Forget it. I’ll ask someone on here directly that was a great help before. Thank you everyone for your responses.

If you read the entire thread you would know how old the sand is and that my live rock is already cured

Did you read any of the messages in this thread?

Everyone said you can transfer the rocks, corals, fish into the new tank on the same day. We answered your question.

Everyone who said that said to add some type of chemical. And ying yang confused me the seconD he mentioned “die off”.

It’s not a “chemical”. It’s just a nitrifying bacteria product to prevent an ammonia spike.

It’s harmless and inexpensive to use and it can prevent death if ammonia climbs in a new tank.

Sorry if confused you by saying " die off"
What I was saying is if add anything new like more live rock as you got existing 10 gallon and acquired and re- sealed a 20 gallon so in my logical head I'm thinking alot of people would possibly add more live rock or rock of some sorts,so of that was the case and you bought and got some more real live rock shipped to you then there could be some die off so would need Cure it separately, but sorry if my post not clear about that ^_^

But again make sure silicone has cured then move everything over, and if you want move sand over as it is then that's upto you,I just mentioned about rinsing it as seen many threads where people transfered some unrinsed sand from one tank to another and they got major problems, but also my reply mainly to you but also to anyone who reads this thread in weeks/ months/ years to come if anyone searching for advice .and maybe there sandbed older than yours ir dirtier but they see us on this thread saying yeah sure just transfer everything and all will be well kind of thing .
From your reply above you re-sealed many tanks and refilled and guessing you didn't have any problems so seems you be good to go anyway
Good luck and hope you enjoy your new bigger tank

Thank you very much. I mean my sand is fairly new it’s not really dirty yet doesn’t really have algae growing in it either. So I would say it’s fine from the look of it. Now if the sand was older I be worried about releasing toxins into the water. I wasn’t playing on transferring the sand all at once but little by little. I think I’m going to wait a week before adding fish maybe a little bit longer. Because I take this very seriously.

It would be fairly quick, fill the tank half way with rodi water mix in the salt, get close to 1.020 salinity add the rocks add more rodi water get your desired salinity add the sand. If you have fritz turbo start with you add that in and transfer all your livestock could be done in a day.

I would not add live rock to a tank where you’re mixing salt. Mix the salt in a separate container to 1.025 (why 1.020?) and heat it, fill the tank half way, add rocks from your existing tank, fill the rest of the tank up with water from the original tank (or new salt water if you want), then add corals and fish. Should be fine to add everything on day one, so long as you don’t cause any bacterial die off in your rocks by adding them to a tank that you’re mixing salt water in. You should never mix saltwater in a container that has living things in it.

And what would you say about the sand?

If you have a way of mixing salt water in a 20 gallon bucket or small buckets, I would just setup the tank add the saltwater add the rocks and sand let the water clear up and add your livestock, make sure no snails or hermit crabs are on the rock. I did this when I moved to my new apartment. Tank wasn’t clearing up till I added my live rock. I replaced the sand but my filter wasn’t strong enough compared to my rocks.
