I game with a buddy who has recently started his own tank after seeing my set up that I shared with him 9 months ago.

Problem is that he's purchased a 50g and has been talking to me about his stocking and I just don't think it will work. I've tried to nudge him in the direction of just sticking with the fuzzy dwarf and snowflake eel he purchased and focus on filling out his clean up crew but he has insisted on wanting to add other fish.

While I think the tank size is adequate for stocking possibly a couple more fish, I've warned him that anything smaller than the dwarf lionfish is going to end badly. He has recently purchased a pair of maroon clowns and a melanurus wrasse online and plans to place them in the tank with the eel and fuzzy dwarf when they arrive. I feel like I've done enough warning him as a friend, I even suggested if he had to add a clown look into a larger clarkii maybe but he was adamant.

The clowns and wrasse are going to be fish food aren't they? I understand it's a lesson he may just have to learn but I don't like hearing about fish suffering. Worse, if it works out I'm worried he'll add a midas blenny or something.

It’s a small tank and honestly they can all kill each other. Maroons are actually the worst monsters of that stock. If the lion has a big enough mouth to eat something it will eat it. Same with the snowflake. If the maroons are bigger they will pester the other fish to death.

With a Dwarf lion they should be ok unless they are tiny as far as being eaten. A pair of maroons may end up owning the tank. I had a pair in a 6ft 150 and half of that tank was thiers. I couldn't even place coral on the rocks as the female would just rip them off. She may also pester the eel and the lion if it's in her territory which will end up being most of the tank.
