I recently cycled my 60g display with 30 gallon sump. But I decided last minute to set up a 10g quarantine tank. My question is there anything I need to do with the display tank while the quarantine tank cycles and then another few weeks after that while I have fish waiting to go to the display? Do I need to continue to dose ammonia or dry feed the display while it’s just sitting in wait ?

ive always understood to only set up the QT when u need it, not to keep it running. im not sure though because I don't use one. when I set up a tank, I also pour in a bottle of bio spira and add fish that day, so I don't know much about the 20 year old system of cycling either

it does, I understand its a very unpopular opinion in this hobby. and its definatly taking a chance everytime I add a fish. if I started using a QT I would buy a media block and a piece of pvc pipe for the fish to hide. or I would keep a big piece of live rock that's been cycled in my sump an add it to the Qt everytime I set it up. Im not anti QT I just don't use one

I’m still curious if I need to do anything with the display while it sits without fish in it for a couple of weeks?

I would feed still so you don’t end up having of nutrient problem. Do you have a cuc in DT?

No, nothing is in the display yet. It’s been cycled for about two weeks now. I never ghost fed it while it was cycling I just dosed ammonia with the bacteria as suggested in the instructions.

The display cycled, I went out of town for about a week, and I set up a qt a week ago. If the display sits empty for a few more weeks other than a water change before moving fish from qt to the display, I just want to make sure I’m not doing anything to screw up the display. I have everything running on the display and was Thinking about it the other day and got curious if the bacteria would die off or something with nothing in there for a couple weeks
