just today I put a chunk of algae infested live rock into the back (dark) chamber of my biocube - I have had this rock in the lighted section of my tank for a while - will I get a nitrate spike from the algal die off? Should i change my purigen immediatly?

I forgot to mention that the system is a 32 gallon with no skimmer

The Purigen only binds organic matter, so organics decaying else where and releasing inorganic nutrients to the water. But if the dying algae releases a lot of organics it may help.

I expect the dying and decaying process will be slow and you may not really notice it.
