Quick semi emergency on featherduster

Put it in the sand or tuck it under a Rock. I belive it’s a distress response.
May be chemical or just hungry.
 
No. It news a place to make another shell. It may or may not work honestly.
But time will tell.
 
I had this happen before, a snail actually pulled off the "crown" or feather component that expands out. I left it as it was with the bottom tucked into a rock and the "head" where it normally was (although it was empty) and a new one grew back in about 2 weeks
