Fellow Reefers,

I am looking for a quiet and low heat pump to replace my Mag7. Let me know what you think!!!!! also if you know the price range that would be good.

Thanks.

I replaced original mag 7 with an Eheim 1260. All my return pumps have since been Eheim and I've had no issues. ~ $140.

I have 3, eheim 1260's, and they are fantastic.

the ATB pumps, or Red Dragon pumps are also really really good...but youll pay a steep price tag for them...

Ocean Runner or Eheim. The new Octopus pumps appear to be made in the same place as the Ocean Runners though and much less expensive. I use all OR's myself but the price has gone out of sight the last year or so.

Looks like online they are $150 for the 1260 and $170 for the 1262 so thats a good price at a LFS.

They can be run internally or externally with the same results. I run most of my pumps submersed just beacuse its easier not having to plumb a suction line and I have plenty of room in my sump. the heat gain should be the same either way since thye are product water cooled via internal water passages and not air cooled.

looks like I have made up my mind...and now I just need to find someone selling their eheim1260 or need to save up for a new pump

Sam, can you tell me how much temperature drop did you observe when you moved to Eheim1260 from Mag7. what were your other observations.

I plan on running it external.
