Most people use PVC but I saw a youtube vid where someone was using what looked like softer rubber and it reduced noise. Anyone vinyl tubing or pex or something that might be less noisy?

I am specifically talking about from tank overflow down to sump.

Also are herbies and bean animal overflows about the same loudness?

I used PVC and I’ve reduced the noise of my (forget the name) three point overflow to nothing. I can’t even hear it at all. If you install a gate valve or something similar on them you can adjust that to reduce the noise to nothing. Takes time and work but I have no experience with other tubing or piping. Goodluck!!

Its a little hard to see but it appears there are two drains with no piping into overflow box (and 1 emergency), fully draining down both. Usually I see people using bean animal overflows with 3 drain setups, unless I see this incorrectly? So with this setup after adjusting valves you have little noise, am I understanding you correctly?

If I’m being honest I have 0 noise. Sorry bad picture but it’s the bean animal I think. One is 100% on with the tubing, the left is the emergency not in use. And the right is the U shape with a hole in the top, the irl a valve, and PVC. That one is the only one that makes noise and I tuned that one to adjust the flow through the PVC to create 0-noise. In case it clogs the emergency will kick in or you can open the valve all the way.

That is called a bean animal drain yes.

Overflows make noise depending on how much air is in the line. As well as how far the water falls before it goes down the overflow.

Pvc or vinyl tubing (the soft tubing) doesn't really matter.

Vinyl tubing will often be used on the return to absorb vibration from the return pump. Many (myself included) have a 7" or so length of vinyl tubing that starts out the return for this reason.
