I have had a Deltec SC1455 for 7 years and it has run virtually non stop for that long. It is a very good skimmer, handles up to 1000l and I have about 550. My only complaint is that it has never been very quiet, and I think it is getting noisier with age. Has anyone looked at new skimmers recently and discovered any particularly quiet ones..?

I can't hear my reef octopus regal 170int

even when it is running..? LOL ( Lovely tank )
If ur talking to me the only thing I hear is water flowing thru my sump and weir all pumps are D.C. Tho and thank you for the compliment if ur quote wasn't for me disregard this post

I have the new Deltec AC and it's totally silent. You may want to run your thoughts past Adam @Battlecorals to see if he could do a replacement pump or something.

Upgrade your pump to a new Deltec DC pump with equivalent water/air output. You still have a banging skimmer but it will be super quiet too. If the air intake is still noise try adding some filler to the silencer.

I have a Reef Octopus 110ss on my 20" cube which I can't hear at all. It runs 24 hours/day. It does a bang up job. The bio load is light with only cuc, 2 Damsels and a Fire Shrimp. I empty it every 2 or 3 days. The cup is abt 1/4 full after 3 days. We have been feeding kinda heavy b/c my GF still gets a hugh kick out of the fact that the Fire Shrimp will take reef frenzy out of her hand.

I had a reef octopus and thought it was quiet, I now have a skimz and it's quieter. I liked the way the collection cup was removed on the reef octopus better.
