I want a silent wave maker. Tried the Sicce Wave surf with the voyager stream and it had too much hum - sent it back. It had reviews saying it was very quiet. Need it to be as quiet as we can get it. Anyone tried the SICCE XSTREAM-E WAVE? I have a 120 gallon tank. What good is a reef tank if it is noisy.

I don't know how big of a powerhead you are looking for, I'm using Current USA eFlux right now and they are pretty quiet. Not silent, but you do have to get close to the tank to hear it. It also comes with a neat controller/remote with different modes for a reasonable price.
I should mention that straight out of the box it had a loud humming, but the customer service walked me through tearing the pump down and re-assembling centering the impeller and I have only good things to tell about Current.

Apart from that, I heard from my LFS the VorTechs are as quiet as a pump can be.

I have found that all new Quiet Drive Vortechs to be the most effective and yet silent over all wave makers.

Tunzes will make noise when they start to clog some. The WAV have a slit squeal. Gyres don’t produce much noise but the clog easy, need frequent cleaning, and not as versatile as a Vortech.

Vortechs are the best wavemakers you can buy.

I would agree my Vortech MP40s are very quiet. I try my hardest to keep my entire setup quiet because it’s near my living room and whenever these pumps get noisy, I just give the wet side a cleaning and they’re quiet again :) I’m so ocd about the noise that I only run my skimmer at night because my vertex skimmer is the loudest piece of equipment I run.

I share your pain @KMench , I go the extra mile to have it as silent as it can be as I can't sleep if I hear any noise.
Have done lots of research on return pumps, skimmers, wave makers, overflows... I'm starting to believe that 100% quiet it will never be... it'close, but not quite silent

I like both the quiet drive mp40 and the maxspext gyres. Are they dead quiet no, but very quite

Submerging them in deeper water also helps a bit... but dead silent doesn't seem to be achievable with a high-speed moving impeller

+1 on the Current. Has been running in my tank for about 3 months. Very quiet.
