Hello,

I'm supposed to be picking up a Quoyi Parrotfish tomorrow and was planning on quarantining it with Chloroquine phosphate (CP) but just wanted to check with members on here that have QT'd these guys before to see what works best. I read that people have had success using CP but I've read Copper can work better.

Any other help/ advise is appreciated to try and help this fish have a successful move to an aquarium setting.

Thank you! -AJ

I’ve had some issues in the past using CP on wrasse. I’ve only dosed one parrotfish years ago and it died )it had Uronema, so the CP may not have been the root cause. Of course, parrots are sensitive to copper as well. Some people would suggest TTM, but parrots are also sensitive to being handled. I think you could use Coppersafe, with a good test kit or the Hanna checker. Coppersafe isn’t my go to med for active infections, but I use it a lot for asymptotic, copper sensitive fish.

Thanks Jay, I'm going to see if my LFS has coppersafe and a hanna checker to measure the levels with. Do you know how long I should QT the fish for with coppersafe before adding to my display tank?

Personally, I run coppersafe for 30 days, followed by 3x prazi treatments over 2 weeks followed by a 2 week observation period....for most fish. I worry about a parrotfish being stuck in QT that long. How large is the fish and how large is your QT?

Currently I only have 29 gallon for QT. The owner of the fish store didn't give a size in inches just asked if I would like a medium or large. I chose medium. So maybe 4-6"?

Doable, but it isn't going to be super happy. I've seen ich issues in parrots than flukes. If you find it is really unhappy in the QT, perhaps skip the prazi and the 2 week observation? Not quite as safe for the fish in the DT, but better for the parrot.

I bought a 5 inch male Quoyi yesterday, from a person who has large tanks himself and sells some fishes (has 8 QT tanks 20G each and sells 10 to 15 select foshes at a time).

He said the Quoyi had been with him for 4 weeks and eating mysis/ Brine and he did Copper Power and internal parasite treatments (kanaplex and sulfaplex and focus mised with food).

The fish is very colorful. But he has been hiding since yesterday. I put some brine shrimp today but it did not come out. Visibly i do not see any issues with fish. My QT is new setup, i moved water and some filter pads from DT and put a big piece of dead corol skeleton feom DT. (I had a live rock with dead skeleton in DT for 3 years (fully cured long back) ... gave this dead coral thinking parrot may like scraping it. ..

Any thoughts on QT regimen recommended for Quoyis.. what disease Quoyi's are susceptible to? What do i feed it to get it out?

What size is your QT?
Dimming the room lights keeps the fish from seeing you as easily, and it may start to feel more secure.
You should monitor the ammonia level.

29G. Should I turn off QT tank light too?

The QT and DT is in basement, no one there normally

What are on disease Quoyi's get? And whatvare they somewhat resilient or immune to? Like tangs get ich, puffers internal parasites ... for diamond gobi normally not much infection... not much need for QT

No - with the tank light on and the room lights dim, the fish cannot see you moving outside the tank as easily and will be less frightened. With nobody in the basement normally, this fish will become frightened when you do go down there.
I’ve had issues with ich in parrotfish, sometimes Uronema. They can get gill flukes.

So I dimmed the room light and left QT light on ... the Quoyi comes out when I am not in room ... but he is n9t eating yet.

Should I start QT medication (wanted a rpund 9f General Cure and if needed round of Copper Power) or wait a bit long untill it starts eating?

How long can Ich and Velvet stay without symptom? Meaning, if fish stays without any symptoms for 2 (or how long) weeks, can I assume he is gine?

What about trying some nori attached to a rock?

The trouble with not medicating in a preventive fashion, means that protozoan parasites could break out months later.

I cliped a piece of nori and a dried krill in tank ... he swam around it several timea but did not try either. I do not think he ate anything with me in last 2.5 days.

Should I start the General cure 1 full doze and wait for 6 days and repeat and wait for 5 days.

I do 20% water change every 2 days

Do you have places for it to hide in the QT? Wondering if it’s stressed with the tank volume and feeling no secure place for refuge. A 5” Quoyi are usually pretty thick boys.

All quoyi must be fully treated for internal worms. If you do not then they will perish in the near future.

Please ONLY acquire this fish if you intend to do so, otherwise more quoyi will be killed in this hobby.
