Hi all,
My LFS seems to get these beauties in frequently. I had one and after 6 months, for no apparent reason, (eating well, no outward signs of disease) it died. After doing research online, it seems to be sadly common. Has anyone kept any long term that has a successful qt/pro active medical treatment? I would love another but the price tag is hefty. Any thoughts/reccomendations?

Sadly, I've experienced similar results.

My first one wouldn't eat. Anything.

Second one was lost to what I believe was Brooklynella.

A third recently passed just as you describe - seemed to do well for several months, eating everything I threw in the water - and then just ... stopped, dying about a week and a half later.

All were treated with chelated copper in QT, as well as General Cure (Praziquantel / Metronidazole blend) in the water column for flukes and internally for parasites.

I need a deeper understanding of this fish before trying again, even though it's one of my absolute favorites.

Thats the same treatment I applied and still lost what gave the appearance of a completely healthy fish. I agree, I dont want to try again until I have a better understanding. There must be something else lacking in captivity that isn't sustaining them or some parasite or infection were not covering. Frustrating. Thanks for sharing.
