My scribbled rabbitfish is skimming the surface with his mouth like hes trying to eat or something. I'm not sure what to think I've never seen a fish do this before. If anyone can help explain what's going on here it would be much appreciated.

If it’s the same as I’m thinking …
They swim to the surface and eat the surface and exhausting the bubbles out their gills .

apparently it’a very common .

This is common, my Siganus magnificus does this on the daily. Mine will also every so often spit water out to get my attention - as soon as I go up to the tank he’s front and centre showing off.

Yup, the heifer (Signaus punctatus) would do it on the regular... It realized me (dumb human) would feed it. Came up to the top, blew bubbles and I gave it food like a well trained human should.

Only one out of the 5-6 rabbits I've had over the years that ever did it.
