I've noticed that some hobbyists use varying degrees of cloud cover in their Radion schedules. For my education, what is the purpose?

Here is a reply I got from Ecotech:

The cloud cover feature in EcoSmart Live is designed to mimic a natural reef environment. Cloud cover will reduce the intensity of your Radion for a random period of time.

All the years I used VHO, MH, T5 lighting, never really realized my tank was missing that function.

Well gezzzz glade u finally realized! Personally it's just a "cool" feature and I don't use it on mine 6 total.

I suppose you like the idea of just using all red lights, or the green.?

I don't use the cloud cover or the storm feature on either of my tanks that I have my Radions on.

Ya sometime I use the iPad with reef link to turn on just red, my anemones look pretty cool, and my friends that stop by are like "wow look at that"

I guess everybody has a different idea on what's cool. :)

I guess it's in the same venue as moonlights.

Attempting to mimic nature can't be a bad thing and you have to start somewhere.

Cloud cover is one thing, but the lighting is a bit too intense and scares the fish.

I turned all my cloud cover off today. Even though i had it set to something like a 30% chance, it always seemed to go cloudy when i was at the tank wanting to take pics or someone was coming over to buy frags or something. lol

Just bells and whistles you're paying more for with the radions. Definitely not needed and if anything maybe detrimental.

lol! You're not paying more for cloud cover or storms, and it's not detrimental.
No need to hate.

Clouds are one thing, storms and lighting is another...................ask my local Fire Department!
When not home one evening it was like a electrical fire in my front room, my neighbor told me.
Good thing my son was home to open the door before it got ramped, with 3 fire engines in front of the house.
Where is the fire he was asking!

Lol!! I can so see that happening..... Just another call where the guys were probably like " What the heck was that and why were we there?"

Guys were cool with it, some of them knew me but not my tank, LOL.
My son called me as I was by another friend close by and when I showed up the lighting started again, as the Fire Chief said "guess the weather man had it wrong today".
As I also turned off the feature on my settings.
That explains why my older dog also crawled under the couch every time, LOL!

Old thread bump...curious if more people are utilizing the cloud cover feature? I am considering...
It's funny I just went to look for it and couldn't find it. I also wonder if it would give coral a small break from high light periods. I just can't remember how long it lasts for.
