Radion Diffuser

I’m a little late to this thread but wanted to comment. I just got a diffuser from BRS today in the mail. I also agree they don’t fit as flush as I would have expected. All of EcoTech products are quality except this diffuser. I do like it and have noticed a huge difference in color blend and shimmer. As cheap as they seem, they are worth it. I wish I had gotten one sooner to be honest. I am running a Radion XR30w G4 PRO.

So while using these diffusers ... do we need to worry about acclimating anymore?

I'm running XR30W G4 PROs at 56% ... eventually ramping up to 80%

Thanks Lee! It is supposed to arrive on Wednesday. I hope the installation process goes smoothly, I don't like the idea of messing with my expensive lights at all...but, the process looks fairly easy. Keeping my fingers crossed!

*I just noticed you were from Mississippi! So am I....howdy neighbor! :)
Where in MS? I’m in south Alabama.

Mobile! Where do you guys shop? Do you ever go to frag swaps?
For local shopping I drive to Hattiesburg and Jackson, which are both a decent drive. I order from vendors online here as well. I went to Fragniappe this year which is my first one going too. I pass through mobile when we go to the beach and have tried finding a fish store there. I think I stopped at B&B and it was ok. Where do you go?

The only place I've been to in the last few years is "Just Fish" in Biloxi. They sometimes get some nice frags in. My problem right now is I've run out of room in my tank. I have some high end zoas (Clementines) that are growing like weeds, and my sps are starting to really take off too. I need to focus on fragging some of these or else I'll never have room to add anything new. I'm a little nervous to frag the zoas though because of all the palytoxin stories I've heard. I don't even know if these have any type of palytoxin, but it still makes me nervous. They are beautiful, neon orange and purple, but they are growing all over the sand, up the glass....they seem to really like where they are! :)

I only shop at B&B for dry goods/supplies. For corals I go to Progressive Marine or Oceans Corals. Rich at Progressive has the best SPS selection and will usually frag off a larger colony if he can. Oceans Corals usually has really nice zoas.

I’ll be happy to snag some SPS frags if you decide to groom your colonies. It’s very easy. As soon as my stuff gets bigger, I’ll be doing the same!

Here's my impression on the diffusers:
I got them because the Gen4 optics were basically blinding me every time I looked at the tank while sitting on the couch. These are mounted on a rimless tank with the RMS. Yes they did blend all the colors more evenly and there are definitely no hot spots but I also think they do quite a reduction on brightness visually. I like that you actually have PAR values for before and after install.
I also would not put them on Radions that I also have in another setup that utilizes a canopy. It saps up too much light unless I was to add another module.

Hey all you missisippi people! New to reefing and new to Mississippi! I used to live in north Alabama. I have only used Jackson fish and coral. Anywhere close to Brandon or Flowood? The jungle exotic pets have awful coral.. but Jackson fish and coral seems to be pretty cool!

I found a higher growth after using the diffuser, also i had to turn the radion down as i was seeing bleaching. I was thinking the diffuser added more par but not sure? after turning the radion down about 10% i've seen amazing growth rates while using the diffuser.

Interesting indeed!
I've had the direct opposite experience. I've had to turn mine from 70% to 100% intensity in order to achieve what I had before the diffusers, go figure.

How deep are your tanks? I have a 30 deep and am considering 3x xr30 g4 to replace 2 reefbreeder 30” modules. I like the light spread from them, but not the coral growth or color. I’m using Radiums in my other 36” deep reef and THAT color I love. Just can’t get there with the same intensity with the RB modules.
