Hello all,

I’ve got a fluval M90 sps dominant tank, that also houses a blue gig. I currently have a reef breeders Photon V2 24” fixture which works great, but in retrospect I should have gotten the 36” version. It is fading a bit on the edges of the tank. So, I’m faced with either increasing the intensity, raising the light, or a new light altogether. I’ve been looking at radions, but was unsure of what would be best.

This tank measures 35”x16”x16”. Would you do two XR15’s, two XR30’s, one XR30 Pro?

If this was my tank, at minimum, I'd do three of the XR 15's. That would be about 12" per LED puck.

You could get away with a single XR30 but because the LED's are pucked and the two pucked units are pretty close, you'll need to raise the light fairly high and run the intensity pretty high as well.

Personally, if I had the budget, I'd run 3 XR30's perpendicularly on my new 36" tank. I don't need the additional pucks for more par, I need more pucks for better light spread which helps produce a more balanced looking coral once it starts to grow out.

With your options above, I'd do two XR30's.

Keep in mind, this is just my opinion.

Ya I didn’t think 1 XR30 would be enough. I’m really only looking into this just to experiment and try something new but with 3 XR15’s or 2 XR30’s it’s a very expensive experiment! I think the best bet would be a giesemann spectra 24”. I’ve always had the best growth and color under good ole MH/T5 but that much punch in a 30 gallon tank may cause it to over heat

I believe your measurements are slightly off for the actual display tank. I measured mine at slightly less than 36" width x 16" height x 12" depth. I think you forgot to account for the AIO filter section on the back. I've been wrestling with the same question... Radion XR30 G4 PRO, Kessil AP700, Orphek Atlantic V4 or AI Hydra 26 HD x 2. I currently have 2 of the Fluval Reef 2.0 lights which are doing quite well but don't provide the color pop that I've seen from every one of the lights I mentioned before.
