I am going to build DIY mounting arms using 80/20 extrusion just like what Reef Dudes on Youtube did.

For this build I will need to use the G4 x-bracket so that I can mount the lights easily on my DIY mounting arms. The G5 x-bracket does not have a screw hole in the middle of the bracket. The G4 does.

My question is, is the dimension and location of the screws between G4 and G5 XR15 exactly the same? In other words, can I used G4 x-bracket on G5 XR15 without any modification?

I guess if anyone of use at home have both products and can try and confirm for me, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

You can not use the g4 bracket for the g5 because of the fan placement. I've been searching to see if you can use the g5 brackets for the g4. Seems like they are stating the new g5 brackets work for both, however I would get confirmation. If you live chat with BRS they should be able to answer quickly. Sorry I only have G4s on hand.

I just looked up the pictures and both G4 and G5 fans for XR15 are on top centre. Am I missing something?

If you are trying to get consistency in the mounts use the new G5 version for all the lights, this is from echotechs website:

ahh shoot okay. The G5 bracket does not have a screw hole in the middle like G4. I am planning to use the screw hole to connect it to 80/20 aluminium using T-screw.

hmmm what's the alternative here. Wire hanging kit?

Good idea. What if I drill a small hole on the top centre G5 bracket small enough for a T-screw? G5 lights already come with the G5 bracket so I don't need to buy more parts?

my G5 lights did not come with brackets. I put mine in aluminum lighting rails using stainless screws and washers. You can use the G4 brackets with longer screws and plastic spacers so it hangs lower.

Can I see some pictures please ? :)

That's how I would solve the problem. My current fixture is designed for the g4s, if I ever were to upgrade, I would drill to allow for the same mounting.
