Hello Reefers, Iam in the middle of a tank build and was wanting a mounting height recommendation of a 315 gallon sps tank? The tank is a 72.5Lx36.5Wx28H CDA tank, it will have three Radion G5 Blue light fixtures for it. What height would be recommended for SPS corals and spread to cover a thirty six wide system? Thanks!

I wouldn’t think 3 g5 radions would be enough for a 72x36 sps tank. You need 4 maybe 5 oriented front to back.

I’ll be putting mine 8-10” awl. 36” width is tricky to light. Either live with the shadows in the back or perhaps add some xr15 or T5. 42-48” wide would be easier. Two rows of xr30 would be money. Probably why if I ever build a tank it will be 40”+ wide but you have to have the perfect spot for that width.

Have you updated and fired up the lights yet?

Iam getting the tank and lights tomorrow, it has been a wait for sure, ordered the tank around Christmas! I tore out a bedroom in my house that had the 220 gallon six year tank in, and added a filtration room for my next build. Here is a pic of tank, sump, filtration room and stand.

I am in the process of upgrading. I am upgrading to a 72x30x24 tank. I plan on running an Aquatic Life hybrid with 5 XR15 G5 blues. I agree that 3 xr15's are not enough for SPS. If you only plan on going with LED's, then I would recommend 5 or 6 XR30's at least to start. I like my current hybrid system, and will be going with a similar setup as the hybrid T5's have a wider focal point than any LED. To get the same wide focal point you have to have twice as many LED's.
