With the older Radions (g2-4) diffusers help reduce shadowing, but given the new design of the Gen 5's, what's everyones thoughts on diffusers on these? Would using it decrease the shadowing further? Or is it just a waste of money. Any one with experience on this?

The newer ones do not need the diffuser. They have incredibly good spread from what I have seen.

The diffusers will not reduce shadowing. To do that you must have a larger light source with either scatter or primary beam coming from wider angles. Unfortunately putting a diffuser onto something doesn’t solve that. The diffusers serve to blend the individual colors better, which they are pretty good at. They won’t give you better coverage though. If illumination area doesn’t change, neither will the characteristics of shading.

I use a diffuser on my G5 Blue and I love it. It makes the shimmer look more ‘natural’ and blends the light even so slightly better. It won’t make any difference to shadowing.

G5s do a great job without the diffuser, so it is not going to make a huge difference as it did in the previous generations.

Good news is that the G5 diffuser reduces light by only ~ 5%. This is from hobbits testing, so that official numbers might be different.

+1 on using the diffuser. I have 2 G5 Blues. My loving wife bought me a single diffuser for Xmas. After running one with a diffuser and one without for about a week, it was apparent that the diffuser made these great lights even better.
