Radion G5 Blue's....how blue is AB+

Hello,

I'm having a hard time deciding between the G5 blues, and the G5 pros. I don't have a LFS around me that has them, so I can't tell exactly how blue AB+ is.

Looking for pictures of it online are also all over the place, and then people use orange filters (why do they do that?). Can someone show me how blue the AB+ actually is?

Easiest question first. People use orange filters so the photo isn’t overwhealmed by blue as our phones tend to be.
as for what each looks like BRS has a comprision at the 2:14 mark of this video however it’s only one comparison photo

Here’s my blue running AB+ without an orange filter on my camera. It’s at 50% but still in acclimation mode.

It looks lighter/less blue in person.

You will never be able to get an accurate representation of how blue a light is via pictures. Camera sensors are not able to accurately process that information. Even if someone doesn’t use a filter the camera will automatically adjust for the white balance. Remember that with the Blue and the pro you can adjust the colors to match your preferences.

100% agree! Watch the BRS video and then choose whatever is going to be best for you. You can’t wrong wrong with either. Best of luck!

The color of the tank is white. 12k spectrum

Doesn't matter if intensity is set at 50% or 100%...the color of the tank is white (with all channels on 100%)...

just got 4 xr15s blue today. with all color set at 100% , its definitely white. not sure how some ppl say they got blue?

Me personally , i think with all channels being 100% is meant for that peak time and intensity for growing . Then ramp the whites down for that “ blue” everyone is looking for

Id say like an 18k look. Blue G5 is just like the blue plus T5 bulb. Most people never use full whites. Why buy a fixture you never turn up half the colors.

So on my Gen4 Pros
The AB+ setting preset only has the white/red/green at 24% with everything else at 100% and comes to roughly 18.5k

I would assume that if you adjusted the whites/reds/green down to that ratio it would match better?

I have the Blue, they are awesome!. I was worried at first because pics online looked way too blue. But in person, the Spectrum is perfect. Reminds me of 20k radiums I use to run. All my coral colors look amazing. No regrets

Actually, camera sensors themselves are accurate assuming you haven't overexposed the blue channel. With a good camera and good image processing SW, you can achieve a very balanced photo.

It's your brain that is able to "auto color balance" much better than the camera, which is why some people perceive it as white, and some more blue. If you are sitting in a bright room with warm white bulbs, the tank will be perceived as much more blue than if the tank is in a dark room by itself.

^^^^This is the correct answer. Ambient lighting in the room plays such a massive role in how we perceive the color temperature. Also another big factor is what you are used to. I.e Kelvin rating of light on your tank prior.

Some will say its blue.. some will say its white.

I agree with most of the comments after using 3x blues over my tank. With all channels at 100 it is very nice temperature and even MOST people who like white tanks will probably agree.

and there is more than enough controlibility on the blue fixture to satisfy 95% of reefers by only turning one channel down a tiny percent.

Hard to quantify, I was nervous about it as my wife is adamant she does not like a blue tank. Hooked up mine and fired up the trusty AB+ and haven’t heard a complaint from the wife. So there’s that
