if you have radions and run them at max, say 50 percent intensity, 12 hours a day, how many years would the par still be good for? I understand people upgrade to better ones, but simply for performance, how long are these good for? Do they lose par where 50 percent intensity year 1, now needs to be 70 percent to make up for lost power?

This is an excellent question and I am tagging along. Hoping one of us might have the technical expertise to know -both- intensity shifts and spectrum shifts with LEDs. I do know that some of the most well known earlier adopters of LEDs purposefully trade out their LEDs because they do believe they degrade as other lights do. I am clueless!
 
I’ve been running G2’s at max peak intensity since 2012.

Bought a couple of G3s a few years ago and can’t tell the difference compared to the G2s.

Haven’t noticed a visible difference but haven’t measured with a par meter.

Perhaps contacting EcoTech directly could answer this question? I’m sure they must have the data.
 
The LED's are rated for years of use before they lose some small percentage of power and are considered to be used up. I think the percent is like 10% or so, but it's not much of a factor, IMO. You'll likely choose to upgrade before they are no longer useful. I would, however, consider the fans as a maintenance item that you will likely have to replace every few years. They cost maybe $30 or so each and are really simple to do if you are reasonable handy. It takes 8 Torx screws, a plug in connector, and maybe 10 minutes of your time.
 
It does not really matter if you run them at 50% since you can just turn them up. I have a friend who runs his 2-3 year old Gen 4s had like 11% less par than a brand new unit that he just got... so he runs two at 100% and one at 89% with the same PAR. This could be a manufacturing anomaly, but the difference is real... I went and tested it too with my PAR meter.

It appears that 5 years is safe with diode burnout, board issues and power supply problems, which appear to be more of a problem than PAR loss.

At 50% the LEDs will last 20 years, longer

The electronic components, no one has an idea. They will go out when they go out.

The all pretty much have capacitors. Those can pop at any time after 5 years. And are all susceptible to tin whiskers if the light is 24/7, which they are.
