Currently running an IM20 peninsula with one XR15. The plan is to eventually add a second XR15 sometime over the summer. For the time being is it okay to attach the RMS mount to the acrylic panel of the IM overflow? I noticed that the mount does cause the panel to move a little due to its weight. Would I be better off mounting it on the glass?

Yes, mount it on the thicker back glass. I would be worried about causing damage to the thinner glass.

If I may ask, what is the motivation behind adding a second XR15?

It’s acrylic that it’s mounted on not glass but just for better spread. Although the way it’s currently mounted (I literally just put it on the tank) it seems to get pretty good spread

I have the 25 lagoon version and mounted XR15 on the back glass. I think the spread is pretty good. I had to crank if up as my tank is mostly acros (frags for now).
The only downside about moving it to the back glass is that it won’t be centered. I could move it to the front piece of glass but that might look funny, plus I’m putting a Nero there

I believe you could put the two mounting rails together (there should be two sizes in the box) and get it centered.

You could keep it on the acrylic (as long as it doesn’t break, the light + mount it quite heavy) and damage the tank + light.

I think I might buy a 30.5” rail and get a second mount for the otherside. The RMS mount does come with an extra rail but it only has one screw so they can’t be connected

I feel like your throwing out money getting a second xr15 for this size tank. 1 is more then enough light. And your going to have to run them set low. If I was working with those demensions I would be looking at different fixtures. Like a couple ai primes or something similar. Half the price and way better coverage for your tank. This is a 24x24x16tall tank and I blast every spot in it with 2 xr15s.

you will be loosing a lot of the power of those fixtures over the edge of the tank with how narrow those nuvo 20s are imo. But if cost isint a problem go for it just make sure you turn the intensity way way down.

I don’t think I’m going to get a second fixture anymore. After seeing how well it covers with just one fixture I think it will be more than enough

If you still decide to do the longer rail with the 2 mounting arms it will give you a good track to route your Nero power cord up and over the tank to help it look nice and clean. Good luck!
