Looking to upgrade from my GEN 4 radion to the GEN 6 radion. These will be going up on a SPS dominant tank. I don’t much care for the look of the pros because of the excessive whites. Will the blues work good enough and provide adequate par for my tank?

Either will work just fine.......I bought the Pros because I wanted the option to balance with whites. Even the pros can still produce blue tanks if that is what you want....the whites obviously can be controlled.

If you know you like the Blue look, they’ll be fine. Just know the G6 has way better spread but less peak PAR than the G4

Less PAR? So is there a reason to upgrade from the gen 4? I thought the gen 6 were better.

Spread is better and less hot spots and shadows on the 6. The drop in par is small but it’s there. If you’re happy with the 4s I would keep them. If you’re having shadowing or hot spots then consider the change.

FWIW I wasn’t happy with my XR15 gen 6 pros and upgrades to Reefi Uno Pro 2s and I’m super happy with them. If you’re considering upgrading to Gen 6s I would look at them as well. Half the price and better than the 30s imo

Less peak PAR. Meaning less hot spots and better coverage.

The spectrum, spread, and blending is way better on the G6

There was a deep dive by Reef Builders on the g6 par drop, and Jake (RIP) attributed it to par meters not picking up the UV spectrum of the new led layout (more UV spectrum). Jake also mentioned the potential to burn your corals if you don’t take that par discrepancy into account. I switched from Kessil ap9xs w/ led fill bars to g6 blues and I am absolutely happy.

With the g6 blues, I’m getting stronger and more varied colors (especially my blue and pink sps that just looked dead under the AP9X) even though my par meter (parwise) says I’ve dropped down from 250/300 par to 150. I’ll probably supplement my xr15s with an xr30 g6 blue in the future when the corals are ready for more light.
