Depends on how high you hang it.
The higher you go, the more spread you get.

With the tank only 12" deep, you can hang those suckers high.
You'll still need one for every 2' of tank I would think.
Read the Coral Lab article. The radions over the shallow sps grow out bins were 24" off the water if I remember correctly.
