I have had my Gen5 Pro running for a few days now and I noticed when the fan comes on it will make a CLICKING / CREAKING noise and is pretty loud /annoying. Anyone else experience this on the Gen5 Pro (or blue)? I had a Gen4 on the tank prior and never really heard the fan running. Mobius is pretty brutal but all in all I have been happy with the upgrade (the Gen4 is being installed on my 2nd tank).

Let me know!

Contact Ecotech and give them a chance to fix or replace it.

One of mine made a little noise when I first turned them on but haven't heard it since. If you turn on smart fan in Mobius settings they hardly ever run.

check the optic lens cover and the optic lens it might be cracked due the the packaging from the power brick hitting it during shipping.

Yup, one of my sides are cracked as well. I didn't look it over closely enough I guess but sure enough both screws on the left side (looking at it from the front of the tank) have cracks leading up to them.

Is that your unit? have you reached out to EcoTech? If so what did they have to say?

Thanks for posting.

Yes, the pictures are from my XR30 blue. I have reached out to them and said they’re going to be sending a replacement, but with the current pandemic crisis the parts department is shutdown due to state mandated. Whenever they’re allow to start they will ship it out.

Pay $900 for a fricken light
It’s cracked due to poor packaging and shipping
And now they can’t even send out another one (not that this should even happen to something this expensive) because of a “pandemic”
Total 100% crap !
I’d be furious, even if the unit still works
Ecotech is 20 minutes from my house in PA

I’ll pick it up for you and ship it
Geez

Yeah, so far it have been disappointing in the quality control. Seem like there was a rush for this batch of units, because the manufactured date was February 17 and I got mine on March 2.

How can you pick it up if they're mandated to be closed?

I recently purchased an vehicle and I discovered a problem that required warranty work. I didn't get upset over it because i knew the company would make every effort to minimize my discomfort. All I had to do was drop it off and drive off in a loaner vehicle and wait for a phone call.

I never felt the need to hop on the Lexus forums and bash them for making a $60k piece of junk because I knew that they were going to make it right.

It would be a different situation if ecotech said, "sucks to be you! If you don't like the crackling buy a DOS to drown out the noise".

Everyone knows that mistakes happens and there's going to be hiccups along the way. What matters is what a company does to make it right.

In this particular situation it seems like they are going to replace the light. I would imagine it still functions and will perform normally with the occasional clicking and creaking, so there's really no rush.

At this moment you have to be calm and patient about the whole situation. It’s a unforeseen circumstance that Ecotech can’t really do anything at the moment. I still have my Gen 3, so my corals will be alright until the replacement come. Safety is for everyone is more important than a product that happen to have a small defect in production.

The perils of buying at launch. Always has seemed wise to me to wait a bit for the initial 'bumps' to get worked out. ETM will make it right as soon as they can.

Someone is working, I got a call from them today for service on my XR15
ETM is working. Most likely remote support. You can reach them over the phone and through the Mobius App by shaking your device to report a problem. They're very quick to respond. The G5 creaking I don't mind that much. Its the loud fans I cannot stand.

That is true, most likely customer support is done remotely. If you run the fan continuous mode and dial down the fan speed it’s not that loud, but when you enable to turn on/off by itself it’s kinda loud.

My G5 XR30 Blues run continuously, but seem to go into overdrive during the peak of my lighting scheduled. They appear to ramp up and down during this time. Most likely due to the Max Fan speed setting I have disabled. I would rather the fans run up to 100% if needed to prolong the life of the units.

Personally I'm a bit disappointed with all the hype about the new fans and heat sync. The G5s are much louder than the G4s. I think in the videos released by vendors they don't mention the noise due to the units being at 100% intensity out of the box and expecting the fans to run at a higher speed. After the initial set up they dial the lights back so the fan noise dies down. Only until you run them continuously or at a higher intensity you find out how noisy they are. I only run mine at 55% intensity and not all channels either. So it's frustrating to say the least.

I doubt ETM will change anything in regards to the fan noise unfortunately. Maybe fine tune things a bit with Mobius but the fans are designed to protect the unit from overheating. Once it detects a certain temp the fans kick in at a higher speed. Sure ETM software engineers may dial back the threshold of the temp before the fan compensates for the ambient temp. Only problem this poses is the failure rates of units may increase along with additional reports of popping and creaking. I'm interested in the diffusers when they're released but wonder if the diffuser will add to the problem of heat dispersion and then the fan speed will increase in order to dissipate the heat.

Couldn’t agree more, all of the review videos where ETM can be quoted saying the fans are quieter must be referencing a baseline of them being off. Anytime they are on they are much more audible than the Gen4. Should’ve known better myself, almost always a smaller diameter is going to be louder to move the necessary air. The programming seems to have major gaps on fan utilization as well. Not to mention these units do crack and pop as the heat/cool. Unfinished product as far as I’m concerned.
