Radion Xr-15 over sps dominated tank

I have 2x Xr-15 gen 4 over my 65 gallon tank that is 48 long 17 tall and 18 wide. I am wanting to be able to grow SPS coral but don't know I am getting the needed par. What does everyone think? I am thinking about maybe getting a third at some point if I find one for the right price. What does everyone think? Do xr15's provide enough for sps coral to thrive and grow? Thank for the input!

I had 2 XR30 pro gen 3s on RMS mount 8" over my 5ftx 22x20 tank and running the coral lab program could only get about 220 par 6" below the water line. I added another XR30 pro and was able to get mid 300s. I would think you would be hard pressed to get sufficient par with only 2 XR15s even running all channels 100%. Like saltyfilm said, par or lux meter will confirm actual light levels. Hope my experience helps give you a little heads up with what to expect. Good luck.

I would think some SPS would be okay. Maybe try with a frag or two directly under the lights?

Wow really, I wonder if my par meter is off or if your lights were defective. I run two xr30 gen3 pros over my 120 (5'x 22"x 27" or something like that) and according to my apex par rock at the top of my rockwork (about 8 inches under the water line) I get over 400 par and even at the far corners bottom of the tank I get around 70. And that is only running at 65%. I never checked at 100 because I figured that was enough. I would think that light would work for your tank but the coral placement would be positional to where the light was mounted. Sps under the light med lightcorals to the sides of it and low light at the bottom

Crap. It double tapped booth of these.. Anyway, I run 2 XR15W'S Pros on one of my tanks. They are 10 inches off the surface. Grow about anything I want in the upper half of the tank.

A par meter and selective coral placement may work out. I'm sure the lights put out plenty of par but I doubt it's going to cover the entire tank all that well. I've got two xr30's over my 72gal and they definitely have some serious par capabilites.

Could definitely be my meter, I just wasn't getting good colors so bought the biotek par meter and got stated results. Did see improvement in colors and growth after adding third light. I am still fairly new to this so op please take that into consideration. I just saw two pucks over a 48" tank and thought I would share my journey. Time for Mccarrols awesome graphic about now.[emoji6]

I run 2 xr15 over a 48x24x16" 80 gallon rimless. Max intensity is around 65% and I have almost exclusively sps. Any higher intensity and I turn my corals white quickly. Even the ones on the sand bed. Your good to go!

My current settings are 55% at peak and my sps seems happiest there. I can only go up to 65% when my nutrients are cranked up a little higher.

I have two xr15 on my 525 XL reefer my sps are colorful, I have par meter par set at around 300.. my growth isn't all there because it's a fairly new tank 5 months old. Run them with coral lab settings either one at around 80 percent. Just recently I increased to 100 percent 12k we'll see what happens

I like all the purple. I had a tiny bit of purple algae on my powerhead. Turned the lights up a little now it's all white.

Do you notice any growth on your sps?

@dave57 My acros color up nice and look happy but they grow slow. I also do notice some shadowing which causes some of my acro to be more colored on one side versus the other side. I might just end up going with an ATI fixture with reef brites LEDS.
