If you have that light already, it will definitely do the job, but it's not ideal. I would not buy that light for that tank.
At most I would use two XR15's, but two AI Primes would be even better.
It can be considered a matter of taste, but rectangular tanks are generally better suited for a strip-format lights - the light is naturally spread out in the shape of the tank so you have fewer shady spots.

NanaReefer- Do you have an Aqueon 40B 36.2" x 18.3" x 17"?
According to BRS the wide angle TIR lens kit says that it goes up to 36"x 36" light spred. However, adding this does drop the par rating. On that size tank however, I think you should be ok.
What kinds of corals are you thinking about keeping>

Yes I have the Aqueon. Rock scape is such that both pillar style piles sit almost directly under both pucks. Leaving the ends open for lower light corals.
This pic shows the Gen1 unit before I sent it in for the Gen3 upgrade.
At the time the light was 13" I was able to lower to 11" and still got good coverage without shadows on the ends.

if thats the G1 and you got the upgrade to G3pro, youre gonna be much happier. I think you will still have some darker/shaded areas on the ends, but you main scape and area will be more than adequate

I think you will be fine for a mixed reef. But if you ever decide to go sps heavy I would add a second g3

Sadly I only went with the Gen3. No pro for my budget. I may try saving up for another Gen3. But that's coming from a dreamer [emoji38]

With your tank being a 40 breeder, a non pro gen 3 will be more than enough.

I downsized from my 75, but have gone through 80, 90, and now 120 degree lenses, 120's are a lot easier to control and I prefer them. The 80/90 was pretty touchy for par zones. I had a red monti that was doing just fine, I moved it 1.5" towards the center of the light and about 1" up, it went clear and died after a day... 
I also believe the 120's help to prevent the undergrowth dying as they spray light more like a traditional t5 or mh.
