Radion XR30W Pro fan wire corrosion

Hey all!
First post to get some feedback from everyone. I bought the Radion XR30W Pro lights new and have had them for a year when one of the 3 lights I had would turn on for a second then turn off. I was getting a red/orange indicator light but couldn't figure it out so took the housing offt to see this wire corroded at the fan connection. I reached out to the manufacture and they said my bad it was corroded, buy a new fan and sent me a link. They've never have been in the water and sit about 10" above the tank. I'm sitting here thinking what did I do wrong and how can it corrode like this and how can I keep it happening again? Any advice is appreciated.

That wire looks like it got hot? Corrosion inside light fixtures is really quite common, but most people don't see it until something fails.

The only suggestion I can tink of for keeping this to a minimum, take your fixtures apart and coat the exposed wire connections with dielectric grease.
