I have eight over my 300G but I have been told it is an over kill. So I am guessing you can do 8? My lights are 16” above the water for coverage purpose. So far I like how it looks. Very minimal shadowing.

My thought was 2 XR30w's, but you probably could do one of each if you want. You'd get better coverage using two XR30w's and the diffusors though.
