Radium vs Hamilton 20k spectrum

Is the Bluewave ballast made by Sunlight Supply not Son Agro? I always thought it was.

Sunlight Supply and PFO both had the "Son Agro" style, also called HQI 400W.
The 400W HQI PFO "Son Agro" style was actually a 470W ballast.
The pictured dual ballasts you have should say " BW-7 DUAL 430W MH HQI" on the label. Please check if that is the case.

That won't quite run them as hot as the PFO will, so that makes sense that you are not exploding them. A VERY good thing... exploded MH bulbs are no fun.

Still baffles me using HPS ballasts with MH bulbs. Yea both are similar sometimes.
One of the problems that I can see with the ANSI code system for American HID lamps is that it leads us here to think that any lamp used on a mismatched ANSI code ballast will ALWAYS burn out instantly even though a certain pair of lamp types has similar voltage and current such as 150w M102 metal halide and 150w S56 high pressure sodium.

Finally completed a list of the ANSI ballast codes:

There is a better chart farther down pg1.
Never swaw one so comprehensive so I posted it here for an FYI

Yes indeed, I agree.

The conventional wisdom has been if you overdrive 400 watt Radiums their useful life is shortened to around 6-8 months. Given that mine are only being overdriven to 430 watts and not 470, how many months do you think I could get out of these if I run them for 7 hours a day?

It looks like we can still get the radium 400 watt bulbs, for now. I like them better than the Hamilton 14K.

That was my favorite bulb back in the day. I would stock up if I were you

Hamilton Lighting website. I ordered 400 watt radium 20K bulbs earlier today. They're there. Go get 'em while they're in stock, lol.

Postponing the LEDs yet again, yay.
