Does anyone know if I could process rain water caught in a rain barrel rough my RO/DI unit? We have been getting so much rain where I live it has me curious. Anything to save money right? Lol.

Interesting idea! Rain is the cleansing solution for the atmosphere, washing out all that pollution in the air. I guess a start would be to measure the TDS. I can tell you it's acidic. I have to dump around 2o pounds of sodium carbonate (pH plus) into my pool when I open it (from rain and snow).

Do you have a lot of particulates in your rainwater? I tend to get a lot of "dirt" in my rain barrels as well particles from shingles.

I have never tested or check my rain water before. I have only ever used it to water my garden and never need to look before. That might be something I need to look into. I know I probably get a lot of pollen and pine needle debris because my rain barrel is attached to my shed that is surrounded by pine trees.

Tidal gardens new facility will be using rain water through a RO/DI system.

Than's new facility is impressive and in the video he does explain how the water is collected in cisterns and then pumped into the building. From there Im not sure how he's keeping the water and what he's doing to pressurize it through RO/DI.

Rainwater collection is a common source water on the big island of hawaii. Maybe there are some reefers there that could lend their experience.

Have used rain water directly for soft water planted systems before. But in this instance i did not care about tds or clogging filter.

Reopening this, given my water prices ($18 every 750g) I was curious if anyone else has had success using rainwater for RODI. I expect using the Smart Buddie RODI (has booster pump) with be fine for pressure.
I have a 600g SPS system.
Installing a well may also be an option.
