Question: If you for example get a Rainbow Crush chalice with only blue w/ green eyes will red grow in it later on? Or, does your frag need to have all the colors (red and blue) in order to grow all the colors?

I have asked around and I always get different answers.

Any answers from experience would be greatly appreciated.

It could develop the red later on down the road. It will most likely be a smaller area but. I have had chalices grow that were missing some of the colors and with some time and patience they developed the color.

I have wondered the same thing. With the answer to the question being what it is, I have another question. Not trying to start something here, its a what should you do question. With the prices for Rainbow Chalices being what they are for a one eyed frag and most of the online companies cutting these frags on a cut as it is ordered. Should a buyer insist on a photo of the frag before its paid for to insure that the frag has all of the colors in the frag or should you just go on the vendors reputation and take what the vendor sends you. Some of these corals sell for a price that is pushing 2 grand, for that price, I would like to see a pic of what I am buying, but that's just me.

Always ask for a pic of what you are buying.
If you want more of a certain color in your rainbow, it is best to start off more of the color. Pay a more now, you will have it for years...
I have a few rainbows that I still waiting to see one speck of color in it.
Buy a frag with ALL the colors you want in it already.

From my experience it's better to have as much colors in the frag as possible. It takes a LONG time for other colors to start coming in. Luckily most of my rainbow chalice frags have had full colors when I purchased them. And it's always best to get wysiwyg pics so your not disappointed when you receive them! =)

I fragged mine a few times. Each time the rim grew back with some green edges and other orange edges...

I do like to look at online vendors but honestly you can get some nice rainbow chalices from ebay. I got a 4 eye rainbow for $60 (I think). Just go type in 'rainbow chalice' in the advanced search bar and and check to see completed listings. I am assuming you don't need a named chalice, just something that looks nice.
