I have been looking and ready to pull the trigger on one. After visiting several sites all these newer rainbows look exactly like the same chalice. Red and blue with yellow & green eyes. Rim will be yellow orange where red on body and green where blue on body. This must have been one large colony that dozens of sellers bought and placed a different name on. Some dealers have several of them with different names but the frags look like each other. Just cut from a different area. If true the market will be saturated with these frags in a few years and will be more reasonable in price.

Yea most of the rainbows are probably from the same colony... I have lots of them and they all look pretty similar... Price has dropped a lot in a year that I've been collecting em...

+1 on this

The two that I know are different are the rainbow crush and flaming bugatti. The colors are quite different from each other. Brightness as well (I have had them in the same lighting conditions for over a year ). These are both Cornbred pieces. I'm sure a few of the other vendors got chunks from the same colonies.

I also have a nice chunk of Joes shockfire. I'm waiting for it to get a little bigger so it's comparable

+2 on this it all depends on where your frag is cut from IMO

Look at the eyes. some of the eyes in rainbow chalices are multi-colored (Cornbred Fuego) and some are solid bright green (CB Rainbow Crush) and some have yellow eyes (CB Crazy Clown). Also IMHO the blue colors on the Fuego are much more blue than other rainbows out there where the blue turns grayish or green. Also, the reds don't turn orange like they do on other chalices. I have several Rainbow chalices (WWC Jelly bean, CB Fuego, CB rainbow Crush, Flaming Buggatti and now Joe's Knows Reefs Ultimate Warrior rainbow chalice) and if you study the characteristics of each (much like Zoas) you can see subtle (and sometimes dramatic) differences between them. One thing I have also noticed is that the Fuego has a smoother "skin" than say the CB rainbow crush, which has a more bumpy surface. Just my $0.02 for what it's worth.

im still kinda a noob in the chalice game, But cant you tell from the growth? like pattern wise? or do they all have the same type of pattern?

I hear it depends on the frag. If you get a lame booger sized frag with only red on it you might not end up getting the other colors.

I always try to buy frags with all the colors... Hard to say if the colors will come in and I'm not one who really likes to wait around... Aha

You can definitely see subtle differences between most of the rainbows like the different shades of blue or red... But most people never grow em out to be large colonies... I'm hoping to grow mine out to see how they differ as colonies... I'll try to post a pic of a few of mine in a bit...

Yes you can if you are fortunate enough to get a larger frag than the size of your pinky nail. some of them have more defined "streaks" (Rainbow Crush and Flaming Buggatti), while others have larger areas of color (Fuego).

Here are some pics of different rainbow chalices I have. As you can see, each one has differences when you look at them.

They aren't all the same colony, but just like anything else out there they came from the ocean where they obviously had been growing and multiplying, so they have similar characteristics, some much more than others.

Yes i can see slight differences in shades of color. But they still have they same color pattern red to orange and blue to green. Unless you have a few if them next to each other you would not be able to tell. If you some how did a mixup with your frags you could not tell which was which. Kinda like all squirrels look like but this one is a brighter grey with a bushier tail. But i still want one of them.

That is a good point. When i see frags without a color. I wonder if it will get that missing color. I bought a diaseris from a LFS. The mother colony was 2 colors in a bleeding apple effect. I bought the frag with the same effect. The other frag had only one color. I revisited the store months later and the one color frag still had only one color. It has grown 3 fold but still one color.

Lets play a little game. Bad picture but, can you identify this?

I agree with all of that. In my tank the flaming Bugatti has grown the fastest. It's a good eater too. Fuego has the richest more intense colors, and yes it does have multi colored eyes. You can't go wrong with any of Cornbreds rainbows. It's best to pay a little more for a frag with all the colors than the same clone with one or two colors because it usually results in a colony with more balance of the different colors. A solid red frag of a rainbow chalice probably will develop the other colors over time but they may be lopsided on one side of the chalice or not in the same amount as other colors.
