So I went to my last who are usually pretty good granted the right people are there did some research on the fish and got him. He will not eat brine or mysis. Gonna call on lunch to see if one of the lfs has reef frenzy as that came recommend by a friend. Is there anything you would suggest trying? Worried as my tank should be more established for this guy. Started out using dry rock so no copepods yet.

They eat hair algae and sand, if feeling normal and healthy, they will do that all day. I've got a Hector's goby which is basically the same in a different color and he doesn't care in the least when I feed the tank but usually gets a mouthful of something every minute.

I have no hair algae and my tank has only been up since December and started with dry rock. Not sure there's much for him to munch on in there

Go on biota they sell a really good pellet. Mine eats the pellets and algae like a pig. I’ve actually stopped feeding the pellet as he’s been really helping with algae

yours eats the pellets? i work at a daycare for children and i got them the tank for x mas. had a clown that died from idek what the water Peram. were perfect. i just don't want him to circle the drain and or spend 100 bucks on something its not gonna eat as I'm 19 and going to college i don't have a full bank account lol.

Mine is a biota fish and it eats everything. I’ve heard if they are wild they won’t eat prepared food.
Maybe try YouTube and find ways to train fish on prepared foods. I made sure to buy a captive bred for this reason

So when I was researching it said it ate everything and with mandarins they all come out and say you have to train them.I read I didn't see that with this guy.. guess I'll be extremely cautious next time

IME, they survive much better in a well established tank. A 2 month old tank started with dry rock IMO, means you are starting with two strikes against you. If it were me I would try to return it.

You can also try masstick I’ve heard that helps or even just maybe some algae pellets? I don’t know dont Give up. Try a few things and if nothing works (might take some time) then rehome and buy from @Biota_Marine they have killer fish and great shipping ngl

Thank you for the shoutout! Yes, wild caught court jesters are super hard to keep and typically show up emaciated before they even get to your tank. Before working with Biota I was trying to breed them personally for about a year. When preparing the tank for them I had a ton of very fine hair algae and I put in whatever herpactacoid copepods I could find. They would graze on that and basically ignore every food I tried until they started accidentally eating the pellets in the hair algae.

Well I better pray it arrives during the week. It's a tank at work but I was thinking about crushing some pellets and putting it in the sand. He seems to just wanna sift.
