Rain's Drop-Off Reef

Got some goodies in the mail and picked up a small frag from my lfs today!

The algaes are Caulerpa Prolifera, Gracilaria Hayi, and Hypnea Pannosa from Gulf Coast Ecosystems. They're all looking nice out of the bag; hopefully they continue to do so and do well. I really admire the look of algaes when viewing tide pools and rocky shorelines, so figured I'd try incorporating a few to this set-up. Here they are still packaged (which was done very nicely).

And the holding tank in all its glory

I planted some of the Caulerpa, but there was just so much I ended up stuffing the rest in the corner to deal with later. Lol

I am unsure of the name of the sps frag, so please shout out possible IDs if anyone has any! It seems to be sort of reddish-green color, nothing fancy looking right now. I'm hoping if it makes it it'll turn into something pretty! Haha

I decided it was time to put my filefish to the test and see if a stony coral would stand a chance with him lurking. So far he has given the frag some long, hard, stares, and circled it, but hasn't taken a nip (that I've witnessed). Keeping my fingers crossed and remaining tentatively hopeful.

In other news on the filefish, he's eating marine cuisine like a champ! It's a finely blended mixture of krill, mysis, brine, and spirulina. He's already looking chunkier to me. The little helfrichi is also doing splendidly.

Finally got around to piecing together the scape last night! Here's a preview before dissembling and placing the rocks in a tub for curing.

I used the cement from Marco rocks to paste everything together. Some pieces were a bit of a PITA to get to stick, but once the cement sets the structure is rock solid (every pun intended (; )

Got another round of goodies in the mail today!

My apex system came in from BRS and boy-oh-boy am I excited!! Unfortunately for me I'll have to practice patience a while longer as we wait for the doors to the stand to be built for us.

I also got in an order from Pacific East Aquaculture. This was my first order with them, and overall I was very satisfied with the entire experience.

I've been wanting one of these guys for a long while - mini red (Indonesian) carpet anemone. The lights on my quarantine / holding tank really don't do it justice.

Added this little photosynthetic sponge on as a 'nugget.'

I snapped some decent photos of Joker today. He's been doing really well. He's still living in the 14g holding tank with his Helfrichi buddy and a steadily growing collection of algaes, corals, and anemones.

The millepora frag I tried he picked at incessantly in the end, but it was ultimately my own stupidity that killed it, so I can't report whether the coral would have grown or slowly died with him bothering it.

Anyway, onto the photos.
