Raising alkalinity you must raise calcium?

Ok maybe I'm overthinking this or missing something simple but many people have told me that if you raise your alkalinity you have to raise your calcium. But what if your Alk is low and your calc is high or dead on? Hypothetically let's say your dkh is 7 and calc is 440. If you wanted your Alk at 9 and you calc still at 440 wouldn't you jut raise the Alk and maybe add a very small amount of calcium if the added Alk would lower the van ohm just a lil.

I have red that. But I'm having the opposite situation. My Alk is at 11.9 dkh and my calcium is at 400. I want to lower my Alk.

If your alk is low raise it to where you want it. Then when alk. and ca. are where you want them then you will dose alk. and ca. in equal amounts. You need to find your daily consumption then you will know how much to dose to maintain your levels.

I dose different amt of alk and ca in my tank to levels where I am happy with .. Make sure ur mg is correct also

I am using the balling method using Tropic Marin 3 part products the theory is I can add how ever much is needed of A B or C to get my levels where I need them. here is a short read on it and if you google balling method you'll find all kinds of stuff to read.

You do not need to raise your Cal if your going to raise your Alk, unless there is an imbalance.
Check your Mag first, then your Cal, then your Alk. Only raise whats needed, if your dosing. I dose seperately, so I only dose what is low.

you dont have to add additional calcium per se you need to monitor it as you raise your alk as you can lower ca

imagine a teeter totter with ca on one end and alk on other end. if ca is high and alk is low as you raise the alk the ca will start to lower if their is an imbalance. also check your Mg as this element helps keep the ca and alk in balance.
