Hi Randy,

I'm sure this has been answered before but I'm not finding it by searching.

I'm fairly new to reefing.

I just purchased a Hannah PH checkers and calibrated it today. It says my PH level in my main tank is 7.85 and my quarantine tank is 7.86. My understanding is that I would desire the PH to be in the 8.1 to 8.3.

My other parameters are Temp 78.8, Salinity 1.026, Nitrates 4, Phosphate .05.

I target my dosing for dkh 9.0, Calcium 450, and Magnesium 1400.

What can I safely do to get the PH in the correct range?

Thanks.

7.85 is just fine. Many successful tanks at 7.8.

However, if you wish to raise pH, the only way is to reduce carbon dioxide. A couple ways this could be done is to run the lights in your refugium opposite to your DT, run and air line from outside to your skimmer, or use a CO2 scrubber (very expensive), again, hooked to your skimmer.

Thanks for the input. My literature was recommending the 8.1 to 8.3 for Coralline growth.

calcifying organisms may grow faster at higher pH. I’d extend that much higher.

But raising pH can be challenging work.
