Raising pH

Well, actually, I don't use anything at this point except A&B dosing. Which, I think will be too costly over time and will not properly raise and maintain my pH.
Are you saying that sodium hydroxide by itself is the same thing as A&B? I think I need a chemistry course for "dummies"
I'm concerned that focusing too much on pH will be at the peril of CA and Mg -- sorry for the obvious ignorance.

A and B from what company? It’s akin to saying you drive a car.

Sorry, Randy. I erroneously thought A&B was sorta standard nomenclature for dosing these elements. I'm using Brightwell Reef Code A & B. I did follow the hyperlink associated with your signature. Read an article or two on dosing and feel more informed. Sorry to be a bother.

I dose cal, alk, and mag. I was trying to use dosing to keep my PH around 8.2. I quickly realized that this made alk and calc waaaaaaay too high. So I did some research about low PH and realized that being in a condo, i was susceptible to effects of too high CO2 getting into my tank water. I added a CO2 scrubber from BRS. In 1 week, my PH is up .4 and right around 8.1. Exactly what i was looking for.

For dosing substitutes, I’ve heard baking soda works but will raise alk very quickly.
