hey guys

So today I noticed that my salinity is 30ppt (1.021) and I need to raise it..

So as I am not good with calculations ai used a calculator.

Is that about right?

Salinity measurements are a little tricky and prone to error. So take your current measurement with a grain of salt (pun intended).

If you believe you have a reliable measurement, you can use your ATO and/or your WC to regulate salinity. I actually have this automated in my tank.

If you want to manually adjust your 70 liter tank from 30 to 35, I suggest you do this slowly to maintain stability. Doing five 10 liter water changes with 40ppt salinity will get you there.

I used this calculator...

Well, I used my red sea refractometer and calibrated it with RODI water.
Then I checked it twice with my Aerometer.. both gave me 1.021 salinity @ 24.7 degrees celsius.

I thought I can load my 10litres top off water tank with 35ppt salt water..

Wouldnt that be enough slow in a 70Litre (20gallons) tank?

I just want to raise salinity to get correct numbers of the Big-3 (Cal, Alk and Mag)

That is correct. Make 35ppt saltwater and add it to your ATO reservoir. By the time all the water is exhausted, you should be back up to 35ppt. As a sanity check, I calculated what the resulting salinity would be if 10 gallons evaporated and wasn't replaced. The result is 35ppt, which is what you want.

Depending on how long it takes you to go through 10 gallons in ATO, you might want to break it up into 2 ATO refills to ensure you don't raise the salinity too quick. To do this, you would need to make the ATO water to 17.5ppt. Good luck!

Edit: my screenshots are in gallons, I missed you were in litres but the units should cancel out and the salinty calculations will remain the same

No need to fiddle with ATO - keep it RO and keep it clean from any interefernce.

Put your salt into a small container (such as a water glass) and place it in a low flow area in the sump. It will take a few days for salt to dissolve..

I never had salinity issues but had to adjust magnesium this way.

unfortunately I dont have a sump..
Thats why I want to do it with my ATO.

thank you, brother!
Not sure if I should go for 2x10Litres @ 17.5ppt or just in one..

Imo a 10Litres top off tank need at least a week to be empty with my tank.

Is 1 week enough?

I would think it would be ok. Quick google search with a response from the man himself also suggests it is ok.
